![]() It’s a scary time in the US right now, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the things we can’t change. If you’re feeling powerless, focus on what you CAN change. Remember—you are not fighting this alone. Everything you do, from donating, to protesting, to educating yourself on the issues, matters. When we band together, all those little actions add up. For example: Voting rights are under attack in Congress. How can we fight back? First: If you have the means, we encourage you to donate to organizations like The Fair Elections Center. This is a non-partisan organization dedicated to making voting more accessible. With programs like the Voting Rights Project, they work with local advocates to challenge unjust laws and remove barriers to voting. The Fair Elections Center is just one of many great organizations fighting for voting rights. It’s always good to do your own research so you can make sure you’re giving to a cause you truly believe in. Don’t have the means to donate right now? That’s okay! Another great way to fight back is to stay informed. Let’s talk about the SAVE Act and how it may affect you. The SAVE Act would require proof of citizenship like a birth certificate or passport in order to register to vote. This legislation is not only unnecessary and impractical, it could potentially silence the voices of millions of American citizens. The SAVE Act passed through the House of Representatives earlier this week and will soon be voted on in the Senate. So what should you do? Do your own research on the SAVE Act. Look at multiple sources to get the most up-to-date, unbiased information you can. If you agree with us that the SAVE Act is unjust, let your voice be heard. Contact your Senators, your local representatives, your friends and family—let everyone know that American voices can not and will not be silenced. With all our voices working together, we CAN make a change.

![]() We've been feeling overwhelmed by the dread of the direction we a moving in. My Oracle has been a source of comfort and solace during this time, but silence is not helping anyone. We will be using this tiny platform to speak out with. Feline Oracle is committed to the resistance. While we fight for a brighter future, we must take special care of each other. Our communities must sustain us and we them. So, as we go about this change, we will remind you: We need to start buying local when we can. Artists, performers, writers, and makers of all kinds are in need. Go to local shows, bars, and restaurants. These people are at the heart of what makes civilization beautiful. When the time comes to celebrate, they will make us ready and give us the space, in all our wondrous, glorious cacophonous splendor, to begin our great work, to meet the potential of the dream we all share. We will be suggesting small businesses—mainly black, queer, and women owned and operated—that deserve your consideration. We encourage you to comment with some of your favorite small businesses! Let's all join together in support of the beautiful diversity and strength in our local communities. Stay safe, and remember: You are seen, you are chosen, and you are loved. — Jessica Cohen, creator, artist, and owner of Feline Oracle. ![]() Here at Feline Oracle, we tend to focus on what your cat is trying to tell you in a spiritual sense. But your familiar doesn’t stop communicating with you just because you put the divination tools away. If your cat is acting strange around the house, it might be trying to send you a message—not a cosmic message, mind you, but a message about its needs or health. If your furry friend is acting a bit off, try not to panic. It can be scary to think your cat might be sick or hurting, but the best way to help them is to keep a level head and pay attention to what they’re trying to tell you. Keep track of how much your cat is eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom. Pay attention to their behavior—if a usually clingy cat is suddenly withdrawn and moody, or a standoffish pet becomes suddenly cuddly and needy, it could be a sign something is wrong. If you’re worried about your cat’s health, you can take a look at this article for signs your cat may be sick. Above all else, if you think something is wrong, it’s important to get in touch with your vet as soon as possible. While divination methods like casting sessions and tarot readings can be valuable tools for giving general guidance, your pet’s well being can be best managed by specific advice from a qualified expert. If your Oracle is feeling unwell, consider skipping the usual divination session and take them in for a check-up—once your kitty has a clean bill of health, they can go back to dispensing adorable cosmic wisdom. Feline Oracle is a passion project run by a very, very small team of two human beings and one wise kitty. You’ve already met our founder and artist Jessica Cohen. This week, we’d like to introduce you to Feline Oracle’s one person social media team, Lela Smith. Digital Marketing: Lela Smith
Lela joined Feline Oracle in 2023 to run its TikTok account and has since fallen in love with the business and its beautiful online community. He is responsible for most of Feline Oracle’s social media posts, product descriptions, and website copy. A long term cat lover and a lifelong creative, Lela works as a professional copywriter for several small businesses and occasionally acts as a freelance illustrator creating album covers for indie musician The Static Dive. In his free time Lela enjoys writing cryptic poetry, collecting cards, and making blog posts about himself in the third person. If you’re anything like me, from the first moment you looked into the big, wide eyes of a furry face, you knew that you weren’t just… getting a pet. When I met my last cat, a tiny five month old ball of fur, hiding underneath a table in a local pet rescue, I was overcome with the need to take him home and make him feel loved. He was so small and so scared, but he slept right next to my head that night, already so trusting. I woke up that morning with a face full of fuzzy but, and all I could think was, he’s so much more than a pet. He was family. He was my baby. Some days, it felt like he was my whole world.
Which was why when I had to let him go, it felt like the earth shattered beneath my feet. Grief is a heavy, tangled mess of a thing. It’s been nearly half a year since I unexpectedly lost Kyle—my beautiful baby kitty who gave me five of the best years of my life—and I still see him everywhere. It’s tempting to push down those memories that are so full of loss, pain and love. But grieving is healing. Whatever you’re mourning—whether it be a person, an animal, or even something intangible—it’s important to let yourself feel. Remember that even when they cross the rainbow bridge, your pet is still with you. The love you gave each other, the connection you felt, the warmth and safety that time with your pet gave you—that’s not going anywhere. I keep a picture of Kyle on my bookshelf. Every night before I go to bed, I give him a forehead kiss goodnight. Just because your cat has passed doesn’t mean they’re left behind, and they will never be forgotten. Everything on our Feline Oracle Spirit Blanket and Catnip Casting Runes—from the cat-themed symbols we use to the ultra cozy material our Spirit Blanket is made out of—is designed to capture your cat’s attention. But as every cat owner knows, no two cats are exactly the same. Where some cats seem like natural born Oracles, others familiars may need a little encouragement to start dispensing kitty wisdom. If your cat seems a little distracted during readings, here's a few tips to get your furry friend in the divining mood.

When I was a little girl, a neighbor who babysat me had a tapestry in their living room that was a copy of a medieval one in France. I was enchanted by the hunting scene; all its plants and animals and the details of the people’s clothes filled me with wonder. It was like a window into another world. One afternoon, I noticed that the four corners of the tapestry had winged figures, who seemed to be watching like I was. There was an angel, an eagle, a lion, and a cow. I asked Allen, whose house it was, who they were and what they meant, but he had no answer. I became obsessed with the feeling that they were somehow important and held secret meaning. It was a message from long ago and I couldn’t read it. I had a learning disability that made reading very hard for me, but art had always been a place where I felt I understood. I could “see” the story, even if I could not read the words. Over the next few years, I saw the same images appear every once in a while in books and in museums. They were sometimes on objects, but still no adult had an answer for me. I would whisper the sequence over and over to myself so that I would not forget. It was my mystery, a private treasure map that I was following. Almost 20 years later, I was in art college. I had spent all the years up until then reading stories of all kinds. I knew all the Greek, Celtic, and Norse myths. Folklore and fairytales were my bread and butter. I was steeped in myth and symbol. It was in my first art history class that the slide came up in the dark classroom. I felt a chill. For the first time in years I saw and remembered the mystery and heard the words in my own child’s voice: “Angel, eagle, lion, cow.” As the instructor went over the artist, the patron, and the story the painting depicted, I was vibrating. I could barely wait for him to stop speaking so I could raise my hand. When the time came, he answered, “They represent a tetramorph, a symbolic arrangement of four differing elements. In this case, it’s the four evangelists. Matthew is a man, Mark the lion, John the eagle, and Luke the ox. Sometimes, as they are shown here, they have wings.” This was how I came to love glyphs, sigils, and symbols of all kinds. This was the birth of my love of visual storytelling, and the first gateway into my fascination for the occult and divination. My artwork is driven and steeped in these ancient traditions. By understanding the visual lexicon of our past, I navigate my way through to the future. |
